Introduction to Ascoli Piceno, Italy
Ascoli Piceno in central Italy is a town in the Marche region and the capital of Ascoli Piceno Province. Downtown, where you'll find plenty of Ascoli Piceno hotels, is loaded with cultural sights. Many buildings here are built of travertino, a grey marble carved out of local hills. The town's central Renaissance-style plaza, Piazza del Popolo (Square of the People) is considered to be one of Italy's finest. More than 50 classical towers dating to the Middle Ages can be ogled here. There are many lovely churches and convents here, such as the Cathedral of Sant'Emidio, which honours St Emygdius, as well as Tempietto di Sant'Emidio alle Grotte and Tempietto di Sant'Emidio Rosso. Work on the Gothic-style San Francesco Church was carried out from 1258 to 1549. Annexed to the building is Loggia dei Mercanti, built in the 1500s and sporting the Roman High Renaissance's Bramantesque style. The town is further beautified by parks and gardens, namely Giardino Botanico, a gorgeous botanical garden.other spellings: ascolipicenohotels, ascoli picerno otel, acoli pieno hotell, asscoli piceno hote
