Arezzo is a large historical city on the east side of the Tuscany region of central Italy. Italy’s A1 motorway, which runs up the length of the country, is 10kms from Arezzo. The A1 is an easy route from Arezzo to Florence, 60kms away. Arezzo hotels are scattered through the city. There is a central group of Arezzo hotels in the ancient streets, especially on Via Madonna Del Prato, leading down from Arezzo’s hilltop cathedral. Arezzo Cathedral (Duomo), the Medici Fortress (Fortezza Medicea) and the Piazza Grande are the focal point of Arezzo’s old city. Although there are a few modern buildings Arezzo old quarter appears as if it were still mediaeval times. Arezzo hotels choices are anything from spartan hostels to luxury four star establishments. Vasari Loggia on the Piazza Grande is just one of numerous wonderful ancient buildings in Arezzo. Others attractions include the Gothic Basilica of San Francesco, the Palace of the Lay Fraternity, palaces and several museums. Most of the city’s sightseeing spots are in walking distance of Arezzo hotels.
