Introduction to Arezzo - City Centre
Named Arretium by the Romans and once a key Etruscan town, the Italian city of Arezzo is today an important historic community with much to attract tourists. Visitors can easily explore the historic old town on foot from Arezzo City Centre hotels, though much of the city sits on a steep incline, making at least half of most walks uphill affairs. Tourists with tired feet can resort to the city's Centro Storico bus service or retire to one of the many bars, cafes and restaurants. Piazza Grander is considered the city's prettiest square and is lined with wonderful old buildings. Arezzo is home to many fine churches and the cathedral, whether viewed from inside or out, is spectacular. Travellers with access to a car will probably want to park up for the day or longer. Using the old Roman roads which connect to Euroroutes E35 and E78, it only takes a short while to get in and out. Otherwise, the main train station is a short walk to the east of the historic centre, on Via Peiro della Francesca.
