Introduction to Amalfi - Beach
Amalfi's golden past as an independent maritime republic is plain to see in its lovely old town core, which is filled with Renaissance buildings and landmarks. Its architecture together with its location on what's arguably Italy's most scenic stretch of coastline makes this stretch of coats a one-stop travel destination for people who want a beach holiday without sacrificing a solid dose of culture. The public portion of Amalfi Beach is small and pebbly. It gets rather crowded during the peak tourism seasons due to its size, but there are plenty of other nice beaches to choose from nearby. Many of the seaside Amalfi Beach hotels and resorts claim a private stretch of oceanfront sand for their guests, so it's likely you won't need to venture to the public beach. Just to east of town are two beautiful beaches, Maiori and Minori, which are accessible by bus. Adjoining Amalfi Beach is the historic town, a great place to explore with dozens of cafés, bars and shops as well as impressive architecture like the Duomo cathedral and its vibrant plaza.
