Alghero is a coastal town on the north-west coast of Sardinia. Sardinia is an Italian island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Alghero has an old town, with charming maze-like lanes, close to the shore. There is a good selection of Alghero hotels either in or close to the old quarter. Alghero hotels in the old city tend to be smaller and in old, traditional buildings. The larger three and four star Alghero hotels are situated around the old city. The busy town harbour, with numerous restaurants and bars, is close to the old city. Alghero has several fine sandy beaches, one in the town and several just a short distance from the central Alghero hotels. Other tourist sights in Alghero include its cathedral, St Michael’s and St Francis churches, the sea walls and the Torre del Portal Alghero. Alghero’s many eateries offer fine dining with the emphasis on seafood. Some of Alghero’s hotels have day trip packages to nearby attractions such as Neptune’s Grotto and Porto Conte.
