Introduction to Agrigento, Italy
The Italian province of Agrigento is situated on the southern part of the island of Sicily. The province’s capital city was originally named Akragas when it was one of the most powerful cities of the ancient Greek empire and is now also known as Agrigento. Hotels in Agrigento are as varied as the city’s numerous beaches, festivals and ancient ruins. Agrigento hotels range from quaint and affordable bed and breakfasts with uniquely decorated rooms to luxury resorts with stunning beachfront vistas to a budget campground near the bus stop with free showers. The campground only accepts cash payments; as do most Agrigento bed and breakfasts, but the majority of luxury and mid range hotels in Agrigento accept major credit cards. Visitors may also stay in one of the hotels in Agrigento conveniently situated near the spectacular Valley of the Temples, said to rival the Athens Acropolis, or in pastoral farmhouses known as agriturismi located throughout Agrigento’s surrounding picturesque countryside.
