Eilat Travel Guide
You can swim and dive with these friendly creatures – or if you prefer, watch their activity and feeding from a platform above the water. Bird watching is immensely popular, with Eilat rating as one of the best-known destinations in the world for seeing a variety of birds on their migratory paths.
Bird watching: Eilat enjoys a main situation on the Jordan Valley-Red Sea-Great African Rift Valley migration path for birds flying between Africa and Europe. Migration occurs twice yearly: From September through November the birds fly south to Africa and then from March through May, they fly back north to Europe.
Glass-bottomed boats: are a good way to get a glimpse of underwater life. Boats leave from the jetty that’s located north of Coral Beach, and also from North Beach, not far from the Neptune Hotel. From these boats you’ll have a great view of the world below, boasting coral formations and dazzling schools of brightly-coloured fish.
Sailboat cruises: there are a number of sailboat and yacht cruises available that will take you for a full day’s excursion to Taba, on the border with Egypt, and then on to the Coral Island and the Fjord, along the Egyptian Sinai coast south of Eilat.
Shopping: in Eilat is a favourite pastime, as the city is designated a Duty-free Zone. There are air-conditioned shopping malls here, featuring branches of most main Israeli chains, as well as designer boutiques, jewellery shops, bookstores, gift and souvenir shops.
