Around 40,000 people come to Eilat for more than 30 concerts held over the four days of the event. The performances are staged at four different open-air venues, with the Red Sea and the surrounding mountains providing the backdrop. One of the distinguishing features of this festival is the series of night-time jam sessions, often continuing until dawn by the Rivera Hotel’s pool.
As tradition goes, there was only a very small amount of oil remaining to light the temple’s lamps, and yet somehow the supply miraculously lasted for 8 days, at which time it could be replenished. Thus, the holiday’s focus is on light and oil, as well as the return of power to the people of Israel and happens to be favourite among the children.
