Introduction to Sha’al, Israel

Located in northern Israel in the Golan Heights, close to the border with Syria, Sha'al is a tiny moshav, or agricultural settlement, that is gaining prominence as a tourist destination. Only built in 1980, the community and its local population have grown steadily, with residents numbering in the few hundreds. In terms of tourism, its small size and tranquility are undoubtedly the main draws given its location surrounded by hills and countryside. In fact, Sha'al is an ideal base for walking and outdoor activities in the surrounding area. At 2,500 feet above sea level, the village is also cooler than many other parts of Israel. Within easy driving distance from here is Mount Hermon with its ski resort in winter and great hiking in the warmer summer months. Sha'al hotels are limited in number; however, there are some very good mid-range options offering a full range of services including information on local tours.
