Introduction to Sde Eliezer, Israel
Sde Eliezer is a tiny town located about 25kms north of the Sea of Galilee, itself a major biblical destination in this region, and can be found by following the path of the water flowing from Lake Agmon to the Einan Reservoir located nearby. Established in 1950 by a group of immigrants from various northern European countries including Czechoslovakia and Poland, the town is named after Robert Eliezer Rothschild, who spearheaded the Palestine Jewish Colonisation Association, a group that acquired the land from the former Arab landowners. In modern-day Israel, the town is notable as the birthplace of Eli Marom, the commander of Israel's Navy. As with many views in this area of rural Israel, the view from the windows of Sde Eliezer hotels usually look over the vast swathes of cultivated farmland that give this quaint little town an uncomplicated charm all of its own.
