Introduction to Neve Ativ, Israel

Right in the very north of Israel, in the Golan Heights, Neve Ativ is a tiny village on the slopes of Mount Hermon that turns into a thriving ski resort during the winter months. Founded in 1972 on former Syrian land, the town operates about 16 miles of pistes at close to 10,000 feet above sea level. It is only operational for three months of the year when there is snow on the ground, between December and March, depending on the weather although there is a water reservoir for artificial snow for when the real thing dries up. Visitors here can also go sledding and Nordic skiing, and there are plenty of facilities that go with the resort, including ski-lifts, a training centre for beginners and restaurants. Neve Ativ hotels are all clustered within the ski area on Mount Hermon, many of which follow the Alpine style found elsewhere in the town.
