Located on the northern edge of Israel's Negev Desert, in the south of the country, Mizpe Ramon is a small town at an elevation of nearly 3,000 feet. It sees hot, dry summers and chilly winters due to its height and geographical location. Nearby, is the famous Ramon Crater, which is the largest of its kind in the world. It is a unique and naturally occurring crater, with steep walls formed over thousands of years that contain varied geology and even the remains of a stone structure that dates back to prehistoric times. The area is also home to wildlife, including the ibex, despite being very dry. Given its geological and biological significance, the area was made into Israel's largest national park. This is a great place to go hiking, but visitors should be careful during the extremely hot months of July and August. Mizpe Ramon hotels are mostly located within the town centre, with easy access to the crater.
