Introduction to Kiryat Shmona, Israel
Formerly the northernmost settlement in the country before Israel occupied the nearby Golan Heights, Kiryat Shmona is a small city with a young, dynamic population and plenty to attract tourists. Surrounded by hills, the city is known for its activities, many of which are related to the nearby elevation. There is a cable car that starts near the centre that continues to Manara, a close by town in the Naftali Mountains, a wooded area which offers superb views of Kiryat Shmona below and the surrounding area. There is also a dry toboggan run here as well as an activity centre that is popular with children. Another major draw here is the local football team, which holds the honour of being the smallest in the top division following promotion in 2007.
