Lying just south of Tiberias, Kinneret is a small town on the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee, in northern Israel, and one of the lowest lying settlements in the world at 185 metres below sea level. Although not as popular as its larger, northern neighbour, Kinneret is still a major tourism draw in its own right given its location and number of historic buildings, including the tomb of Rabbi Meir, who was known as the 'wonder-maker' for his miracles performed in the area in the 2nd century. The tomb itself is an attractive stone building topped with white domes. It attracts hordes of Israeli tourists that come here to receive blessings which are believed to bring health and success. A local history museum housed in an old hospital is another worthwhile place of interest. Kinneret hotels offer excellent views of the Sea of Galilee and are mostly located on the main 90 road.
