Introduction to Jerusalem - Beit Vegan
Located at 836 metres above sea level, Beit Vegan is the highest neighbourhood in Jerusalem and is home to the prestigious Shaare Zedek Medical Center and many attractions documenting the area's Jewish heritage. It can be found in West Jerusalem and its most visited attraction is Yad Vashem, Israel's holocaust museum. The museum can be found at the foot of Mount Herzl, which houses the national military cemetery, the national police cemetery and the Garden of the Missing Soldiers. Beit Vegan has a large population of Jewish ultra-orthodox, and therefore houses many schools, synagogues and other religious facilities. There are a few Beit Vegan hotels along Hapisga Street, which runs through the centre of the neighbourhood. The outdoor market of Mehane Yahuda is worth visiting, where fresh produce, pastries and Israeli cuisine can be sourced. Israel's parliament building, the Knesset, is just northeast of the town, offering guided tours. The Israel Museum and the Shrine of the Book is adjacent to it and also worth visiting.Visit our Jerusalem Travel Guide
