Introduction to Jerusalem - American Colony
The large city of Jerusalem is located in the nation of Israel, and is the origin of three separate religions - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Within the city, there is a small community known as the American Colony, which is found to the north of the Old City. It began in 1881 when a group of Americans moved to Jerusalem and set up a Christian society. American Colony hotels are limited as the society has deceased operations since the 1940s. There are several interesting sites located around the district. Just to the south of the colony are Garden Tomb, thought to be the burial place of Jesus, and Rockefeller Garden, which are both situated off Sultan Sulieman Road. Mostly visitors use the area as a base to visit the Old City with its numerous world class attractions in its various quarters.
