Introduction to Degania Bet, Israel
Right on the southern shore of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel, Degania Bet is a small, attractive town surrounded by farmland. Given its strategic location, it makes an excellent base from which to explore the nearby waterfront, which is in itself a major tourist destination lined with good restaurants and of course, many pilgrimage sites. Degania Bet has billed itself as a base from which to cycle the surrounding area, a great way to take in the sites associated with Jesus Christ, who was said to have performed a number of miracles in the area, including walking on water and the Feeding of the Five Thousand. Also popular here is the excellent seafood, freshly caught from the inland sea. There are just a handful of Degania Bet hotels due to the town's small size, but there are a few excellent options including the local kibbutz, which offers helpful tourist information in addition to accommodation.
