Introduction to Betzet, Israel
Right in the north of Israel, just a few miles from the border with Lebanon and even closer to the Mediterranean Sea, Betzet is a small moshav, or agricultural settlement, with a long history. Just south of the village lies its main attraction, the local hill with the same name, which is the site of numerous archeological finds, including pottery vessels that date back to the Copper Age along with graves and wine-pressing holes from the Roman era and the later Byzantine imperial period. The village was also once an important military site, particularly during WWII during, during which time it was used by the colonial British forces as an aerodrome. Gun mounts and hangars from this time are still visible today although the site is more commonly used for growing crops, including olives and bananas.
