Introduction to Mashhad, Iran
Mashhad is one of Iran’s largest cities, as well as one of the holiest places in the Shia world. Hotels in Mashhad are mainly located around the busy centre, so visitors are often disturbed by the level of noise. Most Mashhad hotels fit in the mid-range price bracket, but it is possible to find cheaper options. Many hotels in Mashhad are uninspiring, with lacklustre decor and an average level of service; however, there are some brighter rays of hope penetrating through the city’s crowded skyline. Some of the more modern hotels offer a more appealing combination of bight, airy rooms, good dining facilities and English speaking staff. The city’s oldest hotel is housed in a crumbing 1930s building, but the friendly management offer a warmer welcome than other hotels in the neighbourhood.
