Many tourists make a beeline for Jalan Jaksa and do not leave till the next morning as there are several bars along this long road. The Hard Rock Cafe has live music and caters to a mostly upmarket crowd. Jazz and soul lovers must drop in at Cafe Batavia, in Fatahillah Square, where the resident band performs several times a week.

Several pubs that are frequented by mainly expatriates are located at Jalan Wahid Hasyim. The pubs are a lot quieter and jazz is the preferred choice of music. Irish and English styled pubs can be found at Blok M, a huge shopping centre that has many pubs and bars while there are several discos across the city including Tanamur Disco, Garasi and Jalan Jalan.
