The villagers deck themselves in their finest clothes and carry umbrellas, offerings of flowers, fruits and sacred statues to the sea or holy springs where the items are washed. Holy men sacrifice pigs accompanied to the sound of drumming by the gamelan and cheering from the villagers. As part of the celebrations, the people are required to be very loud and noisy. The next day, Nyepi, must be maintained in absolute silence.

Negara Bull Races: are a time for fun and skill to be displayed. The bulls are bathed and lavishly decorated with powdered colour and garlands and then hitched up to chariots. What follows next is the race between the bulls with jockey’s encouraging their bull to the finishing line in a fascinating competition.
