Introduction to Riau, Indonesia
Riau is an Indonesian province situated along the Strait of Malacca. It is one of the largest provinces, not only on the island of Sumatra, but also in the Indonesian archipelago. Hotels in Riau are available mostly in the larger cities, including Pekanbaru and Dumai. The province is famous for its palm oil plantations, and is the closest Indonesian land area to Malaysia. Even in the main city of Pekanbaru, there isn’t an awful lot to see and do. The hotels in Riau range in price and style, from very cheap traditional housing accommodation to mid range lodges. The Riau Islands are also quiet famous among tourists as they sit just off the southern coast of the province of Riau.
