Introduction to Pelabuhan Ratu, Indonesia
The name of the tranquil Indonesian beach resort of Pelabuhan Ratu translates to Queen's Harbour in English. This resort, which received its name from the mythical Queen of the South Seas, may be just a four-hour drive from Jakarta, but it often feels like a world away from Indonesia's crowded capital city. Jakarta is the hometown for many Pelabuhan Ratu visitors who use the resort as a quiet weekend getaway. However, this resort is also beginning to attract tourists who travel far further distances to arrive here. A high percentage of visitors here are surfers in search of the enormous waves which wash over this resort's huge horseshoe-shaped bay. The busiest week of the year for Pelabuhan Ratu hotels is the annual West Java Surfing Championship, which takes place at Cimaja Beach in the middle of June.
