Introduction to Palu, Indonesia

The chartered city of Palu, Indonesia also happens to be the capital of the Central Sulawesi Province in the middle of the island of Sulawesi, 1,650kms northeast of the national capital, Jakarta. The mountain ridges which surround this city and its narrow bay ensure the area receives far less rainfall than most other Indonesian regions. Although there are a few Palu hotels, the city can easily be explored on a daytrip. Palu has only recently ended its isolation to the outside world, but its traditional culture and handicrafts are still displayed at the Central Sulawesi Museum. However, the nearby Lore Lindu Natural Reserve is probably the most popular attraction here because of its ancient megalithic statues, pleasantly cool climate, unique fauna and flora, and scenic Lake Lindu. Even more monolithic structures can be spotted throughout neighbouring Bada Valley, while the best place for water activities is Dong Gala, an ancient seaport.
