Introduction to Palembang - City Centre
The ancient port city of Palembang lies along the banks of the Musi River on the southern Sumatra seacoast and is the second-largest conurbation on the island. Written evidence of the early settlement goes back 1,300 years, with the many historic remnants including colonial buildings and temples. The cultural and commercial centre of the city is located in Seberang Ilir on the river's north bank and is home to the largest and most modern shopping malls and shopping streets, the magnificent Masjid Agung Grand Mosque and a great choice of Palembang City Centre hotels at all prices. The downtown area is bisected by the River Musi, with a huge roundabout set in the central square. Most action goes on close to the waterside, although you won't find high-rise resort hotels, casinos or grand nightclubs here.
