Introduction to Jakarta - Cilandak
One of the greener districts of the city of Jakarta, Cilandak is a group of five kelekuran, or villages, and is popular as a quiet and attractive residential suburb. Its city centre is a mix of shopping streets and a large mall, a local market selling everything from fresh produce and street foods to handicrafts, colonial buildings, Cilandak hotels and new commercial structures. Three rivers flow through the district, the Krukut, the Pesannggrahan and the Grogol. The shopping and entertainment area here centres on the town square, ringed with coffee shops and eateries open all hours and a great place to hang out and take in local life, as is the fascinating and crowded Pondok Labu market where the residents shop. The district is popular as a base for tourists as it's safe at night, provides good facilities and has a wide choice of hotels.
