The Indonesian regency, or kabupaten, of Bekasi is situated directly west of the national capital, Jakarta. The metropolitan region where this regency and city are located is called Jabodetabek, and more than two million people call this bustling commuter community home. Taxis are widely available outside most Bekasi hotels, which tend to be more inexpensive than their Jakarta counterparts, and the parking lots of the numerous shopping centres which can be found here. Mega Bekasi Hypermall is merely the largest of this community's modern shopping centres, which also include Blue Oasis City, Metropolitan Mall, Grand Mall, and at least three more. This is also an area of growing industry containing several factories where goods are manufactured for international companies such as Samsung, Honda, and Converse. This city and regency can also easily be explored by uniquely Indonesian means of transportation such as two passenger bicycles called becak, motorcycles known as ojek, or small vans named kuasi, which are painted in a distinctive reddish-brown colour.
