Introduction to Banten - Tangerang
Tangerang is a city within Banten Province in Java, Indonesia. It is situated 20kms from the capital of Jakarta. Tangerang is an important industrial city in Java and has 1,000 factories manufacturing goods for companies around the world. The city also has many shopping malls where visitors can buy modern electronics, clothes and other items. There is a significant Chinese Indonesian community in Tangerang, whose ancestors came here in the 18th and 19th centuries to work as labourers for the Dutch colonialists. The city's Chinatown district is well worth a visit, and here visitors can buy many Chinese items or enjoy the many restaurants selling Chinese food. There is a good number of Tangerang hotels all over the city to suit all budgets and plenty of bus and taxi services available in order for visitors to get around the city. There are two main highways from the city to Jakarta and plenty of bus services, and the journey takes approximately two hours.
