The earliest documents reveal that Bali’s history began in the 10th century AD when King Udayana married a princess from East Java. Their son, Prince Airlangga, was sent to Java to rule the kingdom of his grandfather, but when the King was murdered Prince Airlangga assumed the throne and ruled Bali and East Java as one principality.
