Introduction to Bali - Tabanan
Tourists heading to Central Bali's Tabanan should not expect to find white-sand beaches and crystal blue water. Instead this part of the island offers interesting sights including black-sand beaches which are not suitable for swimming and the Puru Luhur Batukaru and Puru Taman Ayun temples. These Hindu temples are 900 and 500 years old, respectively, and important to the Balinese. The Puru Luhur Batukaru is particularly special since it sits on top of a mountain and is often surrounded by mist. There is an abundance of wildlife in Tabanan and visitors should head to the butterfly park or the monkey forest to see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. It is a good idea to rent a car and drive from Tabanan to Pupuan since the drive offers some amazing sights high up in the mountains. Most Tabanan hotels are not found on the beaches like in other parts of Bali, but instead on the side of Mount Batukaru.Visit our Bali Travel Guide
