Pura Besakih (Mother Temple) is the most important temple in Bali and is the focus of the Betara Kubun Ceremony held in March and April each year. During this time, every god and goddess are believed to take residence at the Mother Temple which has about 30 temples within its ground. In the temples, there are numerous idols of different Hindu gods and goddesses. The Balinese believe it was the power of the gods here that made this the only building that was not destroyed in the 1963 earthquake.
