The black, volcanic sand beaches of Bali's Candidasa offer a relaxing break from the more visited tourism spots on the island, such as Kuta. On the southeast of Indonesia's favourite holiday island, this stretch from Manggis through to Candidasa town itself may not feature Bali's most appealing coastline, but it holds hidden gems for those willing to explore, including some of Bali's best cultural and geographic highlights. The area serves as a gateway for climbers heading up Mount Agung, which at 10,000 feet high is the fifth-highest peak in Indonesia. The village of Tenganan offers a glimpse into the hidden world of traditional life here, where the people practice a unique culture including traditional fighting and textile weaving, both of which can be witnessed by visitors.
