Introduction to Bali - Amed
Off the beaten track and less developed than many other parts of this popular island, Bali's Amed is an area that has only recently started developing its tourism infrastructure. As such, this eight-mile stretch of tropical beach flanked by mountains is idyllic. Diving and snorkelling are the main activities here, with largely untouched sea life, ship wrecks and coral abundant in colourful coral reefs. The beaches here tend to feature black volcanic sand but are nevertheless superb and a far cry from the more hectic stretches of coastline in places like Kuta. Amed is a relaxing paradise for sun worshippers. Tulamben makes a good day out with its colourful fishing boats and good seafood restaurants, many of which are perched close or on the water. Amed hotels remain few and far between due to the low level of development here. As a result, most are budget or mid-range, with the vast majority situated in Tulamben.Visit our Bali Travel Guide
