Most of the old part of Udaipur is built on the shores of Lake Pichola, and it's here that you will find most of the city's attractions. Take a boat trip and visit the island and former palace in the middle of the lake (made famous by the James Bond film, Octopussy).
Spend some time walking aimlessly around the small lanes while observing the locals going about their business. Whatever you choose to do, Udaipur will undoubtedly be one of the most relaxing and charming cities you will visit in India.
The Ruby Palace has a good collection of glass and mirror work while Krishna Vilas displays some miniature paintings.
The Crystal Gallery: can be found in the Fateh Prakash Palace and has a collection of crystals ordered by the Maharana Sajjan Singh from England. The maharaja died before they arrived and all the items stayed packed up in boxes for over one hundred years. The extravagant collection includes sofa sets, a dinning table, decanters, perfume bottles, and an exquisite jewel studded carpet.
The Eklingji Temple: is one of the country’s prime pilgrimage destinations. It is famous for its 108 shrines built of marble and sandstone and was first built in 728 AD. It has however undergone many changes and renovation work over the years.
Ahar: the magnificent ruins here can be found just a few kilometres from Udaipur and contain 19 royal cenotaphs and a tiny Government Museum. A rare collection of antiquities including earthen pots, iron objects and other art items excavated in the region are on display.
