Health for Visitors to India
Tap water, and well water is generally best avoided for travellers to India, treated bottled water is widely available. You should take particular care with drinks with ice, as the ice may well have not been made with treated water; likewise most visitors brush their teeth with bottled water.
You should ensure that meat and fish has been well cooked, and if you eat in cheap street side places, try to pick somewhere busy, where the food will be freshly cooked. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled.
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you arrive from an infected area and you should ensure your are up to date with vaccinations for Typhoid, Polio, Hepatitis A and B and Rabies.
The sun and heat can be a source of problems for tourists, and you should be careful to avoid the sun at the strongest times of day, drink plenty of water, and wear sunscreen and a hat.
