A wide variety of restaurants line the streets close to the beaches. Establishments range from beach shacks to quaint restaurants. Many of the restaurants serve both continental and local cuisine and tame down the spicier dishes if requested.
Local cuisine
Local cuisine has been greatly influenced by the Portuguese who ruled Goa for many years. Main dishes are usually accompanied with rice. Prawn, crabs, lobsters, and jumbo pomfrets are favourites and used to make a range of tasty dishes including pickles, salads, soups, curries and stir-fries. However, chicken and pork are also favoured by the locals with the most popular meat dish being pork vindaloo.

Cuisine from Goa is extremely tasty and rich and every visitor should make it a point to try at least a vindaloo and bebinca. Naturally, all meals should be washed down with feni, the local liquor that is made from cashews and coconut.
