Introduction to Tamil Nadu - Ooty
One of the most popular hill resorts in southern India is Ooty, which is short for Ootacamund. Located within the Blue Mountains of Tamil Nadu, Ooty is a favourite with Indians looking to escape the dust and heat of the plains. Much of the rolling hills in this region are protected as national parks, giving visitors lots of choice for a hike or other outdoor recreation. The Botanical Gardens, Sims Park and the Rose Gardens are three excellent destinations if you want to experience the rich natural flora and fauna of this part of India. Doddabetta Peak offers the finest views over Ooty, while the Nilgiri Mountain Railway is a wonderful way to see the valleys and enjoy a fun day out on a historic train. Great South Indian food can be found all over town as well as some decent shops selling traditional crafts and local goods like spices, oils and of course, tea.
