Introduction to Silvassa, India
People from all over India have flocked to the southwest city of Silvassa to seek jobs in the city's numerous factories, but the capital of the tiny territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli also has much to offer for those coming to the city for fun. There are about a dozen Silvassa hotels, and the city boasts its best weather between November and March. Although Marathi and Gujarati are the city's most prominent languages, Silvassa also contains a fair amount of Portuguese speakers due to its former status as a Portuguese enclave. It took three years for Portuguese settlers to build the Our Lady of Piety Church during the late 1880s, but local tribal history is equally well preserved at a tribal culture museum. The nearby Island Garden has been the setting for several blockbuster Bollywood films because of its scenic paths across wooden bridges, thatched huts, and Vanganga Lake in the middle of the Island Garden.
