Introduction to Shimla - Outskirts
Shimla, the capital of mountainous Himachal Pradesh State, was once the British Raj summer capital for its Himalayan setting, pleasantly cool summers and snowy winter months. Famous as a tourist destination, the town boasts colonial neo-Gothic and Tudorbethan architectural styles set along tree-lined winding roads climbing the Himalayan foothills. On the outskirts of the city is Jakhu Hill, 8,000 feet above sea level and giving stunning views of the town and the snowy mountain ranges. Shimla hotels in the outskirts of the town are mainly located in the surrounding small hill villages just a few kilometres away. The little township of Summer Hill was home to the 'father of the nation', Mahatma Ghandi, on his visits to the area. Hotels on the edge of town are popular during the winter season for their locations close to ski areas and with summer visitors escaping from the suffocating lowlands heat to the clean, fresh, invigorating mountain air.other spellings: shimlahotels, shimra otel, shimla hotell, chimlar hote, shimla hotles
