The city of Sawantwadi is located on southwest India's Konkan coast in the state of Maharashtra. Prior to Indian independence, this city was the capital of its own royal kingdom, and the majestic Sawantwadi Palace has survived several natural disasters to remain standing today. The palace is filled with traditional artwork and the wooden toys for which the city is famous. The local craft village is the best place for visitors to purchase these handcrafted items for themselves. Moti Talav, which means Pearl Lake in English, received its name after the workers who created the lake received pearls as their payment. Children may feed the fish which swim in Moti Talav while older visitors relax in the recently renovated garden near the Narenda Hills. Paddling, boating, and swimming are all widely available at the Talao water sports facility near Moti Talav. Many guests at the roughly half a dozen Sawantwadi hotels choose the city as their base to further explore the Konkan coast.
