The colourful city of Balotra sits in southwest Rajasthan, where it offers a popular destination in this Indian state made famous by the legendary Rajput warrior clans and the maharaja kings that followed. Today, many generations after the Moghul empire stopped struggling to contain these undefeatable tribes, the area offers an abundance of excellent attractions. The city is popular with tourists and pilgrims, primarily visiting the many important temples, while a busy season of festivals in Rajasthan keeps other visitors coming. Travel links are good, with the local railway station being easily reached from hotels in Balotra. One of the most impressive sights is found at the famous Nakoda Jain temple, which sits on an escarpment about 10kms to the south. The fabulously ornate Khed temple takes less than 20 minutes to reach by road. The historical village of Jasol is also less than 10 minutes away, providing an ideal opportunity to see some of the most colourful remnants of one of the most famous of Rajput clans.
