Introduction to Pushkar, India
For a truly authentic Indian getaway, there is no place more fitting then the town of Pushkar. As a matter of fact, the town is so deeply religious that meat, alcohol and drugs within the city limits are totally prohibited. Despite the traditions, however, hotels in Pushkar can be quite modern and at times, pricey. Camel safaris are one of the more popular tourist activities and can be arranged by most travel shops. There are also dozens of traditional Hindu temples lining the city of Pushkar that are mostly open to visitors who have an interest in the spiritual side of India. Brahma Temple is quite famous, and so too is the Rangji and Charmunda Temple. Lake Pushkar is a very sacred landmark in the city, and for Hindus in general. Due to its high spiritual significance, it is important that visitors to the lake respect the laws. Remember to refrain from making loud noises and shoes must be removed before heading to the lake.
