Introduction to Puri, India
The town of Puri is a seaside resort and Hindu pilgrimage location with lots of old and ornate temples. Puri is on India’s eastern Bay of Bengal coast, around 400kms from Kolkata. Direct train services link the two. There is a varied choice of Puri hotels for visitors. The adjoining Chakratirth Road and Marine Drive Road run parallel with the soft golden beach here. A fair proportion of the hotels in Puri are situated on these roads, or slightly set back. Guests staying in this area have the unusual opportunity of seeing sunrises and sunsets. Puri hotels are within easy walking range of cafes and eateries that serve an eclectic choice of local cuisine, including masala dosa, and international gastronomy. There are shops dotted around the beach area and in town that sell all manner of clothing, souvenirs, jewellery and religious artefacts.
