Introduction to Pune - Pimpri-Chinchwad
Set in Pune district in Maharashtra State, the twin towns of Pimpri-Chinchwad lie along the old Pune-Mumbai road close to the River Pavana. The river floods every year, inundating nearby buildings and temples, although locals consider the water to be the bathing of the god Ganesha. The region of Pune is well known in the state for its 2,000 years of history and is linked with several legendary Hindu kings and freedom fighters. Nowadays, the twin towns hold one of the largest industrial complexes in Asia, focusing on car manufacturing and other heavy industries as well as IT companies. The majority of Pimpri-Chinchwad hotels serve commercial travellers and other business-oriented arrivals as tourism isn't yet a contributor to the city's economy. Although the state city of Pune has attractive heritage sites and museums, Pimpri-Chinchwad is more suitable for a daytrip as the few temples, cultural centres and the nearby historic village of Bhosari won't take long to explore in their entirety.
