Namakkai, India is a city and district in the middle of the scenic Kolli Hills which boasts a long history dating back no later than the 7th century. Most Namakkal hotels are low budget, but the city also offers limited mid-range options. This city is also sometimes known as Namagiri after the name of the gigantic 65m high rock formation in its city centre. The circumference of this rock is over a kilometre in size. An equally impressive fort was constructed over the rock during the 16th century. This fort, considered one of India's safest, is also located above the nearly 1,500-year-old Lord Anjaneya Temple. Another well-known temple in the city is called Lakshmi Narasimha, unique because it is a cave temple, located just across the street from Lord Anjaneya Temple. On a daily basis, well over 17 million eggs are produced in this region and shipped to all corners of India, and Namakkal fixes the egg prices for the entire country.
