Introduction to Mysore, India
Located in southern India, Mysore is the second-largest city in the state of Karnataka. The city rose to prominence in the 16th century, when it was the centre of the Raja Wodeyar rule. The main landmark of the city is the stunning Mysore Palace, which was built in 1912 by British architect Henry Irwin. The palace is breathtakingly illuminated during the Dasara Festival, which takes place every year in September or October. Children will absolutely love the musical fountain in Brindavan Gardens, while adults can enjoy the beautiful gardens. Another attraction is the Jagmohan Palace and Art Gallery, an old palace that houses an impressive collection of art. To get out of the heat, seek out one of the many museums in the city. Two popular ones are the Regional Museum of Natural History and the Folk Lore Museum. Most Mysore hotels are located near the palace. Visit our Mysore Travel Guide
