Hotel Description
The Mayfair Hill Resort was once the summer residence of the previous Maharaja of Nazargunj. Now the building has been transformed into a tourist accommodation in Darjeeling. The city is known for its numerous tea plantations and was once a retreat of British residents during the hot summer months. Darjeeling is located in the lower Himalayas; guests enjoy great views of the mountains from the hotel. One can simply walk to the Mahakal Temple, which is a serene sanctuary of the Bhutia peoples. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (a 25 minute drive away) is where visitors can learn the basics of mountaineering from the experts. In the hotel, there is a room dedicated to the mountaineering exploits of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, a famous mountaineer.
