Introduction to Madikeri, India
The hill station of Madikeri, India is sometimes compared to Scotland for its misty hills and relatively cool climate likened to most other parts of southern India. There are budget Madikeri hotels as well as upscale resorts, medium range accommodation and picturesque homestays. Although Madikeri Fort was originally constructed with mud at the end of the 17th century, the original structure was eventually replaced by a far more impressive building with two life size elephant carvings guarding its entrance. Many local government offices are located inside the fort along with a small museum and the local prison. Omkareshwara Temple was constructed near the centre of the community in 1820. The Raja's Seat garden sits at the community's west end, and spectacular sunsets add even more to the unforgettable views of the surrounding Blue Mountains and Coorg Valley.
