Introduction to Madhya Pradesh - Bandhavgarh Park
Covering some 105km2 at its core, Bandhavgarh National Park's buffer area takes it to nearly 500km2 across the Vindhya mountains in the Umaria and Katni regions of India. Since the 1960s, the park has been a conservation area of huge biodiversity. The park's tiger population rivals that found anywhere else in India and is a major attraction for visitors staying at Bandhavgarh Park hotels. Leopards and deer also enjoy healthy populations here. Though the area's legendary white tigers have not been spotted for half a century, the flora and fauna of the park make for popular treks and are one of the main reasons visitors join safari tours. Ancient and pre-historic records of great value in the form of Brahmi script and embossed figures can also be enjoyed in the 39 caves of Bandhavgarh Fort. The oldest of these caves is 2,000 years old.
