Koraput, India is a city and district filled with natural beauty in the eastern state of Orissa. Although the area's fairly isolated location is a five-hour drive away from the nearest airport, those who visit the region and stay in Koraput hotels say the long journey is worth the flowing waterfalls, lush meadows, green forests, and terraced valleys awaiting them. Most residents belong to local tribes whose civilisations date back centuries, and Koraput's most famous landmark is the Jagannath temple of Sabara Srikhetra, where no one is barred from admittance. A museum dedicated to local tribe history can be found just behind the temple. Less than a few hours' drive from the city lies the nearly 158m waterfall of Duduma, whose waters power a large hydroelectric project, and the famous Gupteswar cave shrine which stands on top of an impressive limestone hill. The city is also near Hatipathar, Chindri, Machkund, Onukadelli, and Jalaput hill stations.
