The district and town of Koppal, India are both located in Karnataka, a state in the southwest part of the country. Hills surround the community, sometimes called Kopana Nagar, on three of its four sides, with the town having played an important role in Karnataka's history. There are several modest Koppal hotels between one and three stars in addition to lodges and at least one upscale resort. The numerous sandstone temples are the area's best known attractions, and many of them were originally constructed by the various kings who once ruled over the Chalukya Empire. The most famous of these temples are Mahadeva, Dodda Basappa, Sarasvati, Amritesvara, Maley Mallappa, and Siddhesvara. Another well-known local religious shrine is Gavimath, which includes four caves in addition to its modern temple. French engineers may have helped rebuild Koppal Fort in 1786, but the fort itself stood over the town's plains for several years beforehand. The months between October and March are the most ideal times to visit.
